Mayor Buddy Dyer proclaims September 4, 2004 Indigenous Heritage Festival Day in Orlando

Altamonte Springs, FL - July 18, 2004 - The Mayor of Orlando declared through a Proclamation issued by the City of Orlando that Saturday, September 4, 2004 would be Indigenous Heritage Festival Day in the City of Orlando. The Proclamation was issued in support of the festival to be held on that day. The Indigenous Heritage Festival, hosted by ATAYAL, a non-profit organization dedicated to heightening awareness of indigenous cultures of the world, which are critically endangered, will be held between 10:00 am and 10:00 pm, September 4th, 2004 at the University of Central Florida in Orlando.

This free festival will be filled with color and culture and will be the first in an annual series designed to honor the indigenous spirit of tribal groups from around the world. Orlando will be the birthplace to showcase the annual event. At this free festival, all will be able to enjoy and celebrate films, live performances, workshops, exhibits, and an awards ceremony.

Attending the festival will be the Taiwan Aboriginals' Economic & Culture Exchange Association, members of the Seminole Tribe of Florida, Thirza Defoe of the Oneida tribe, Groupe Afric Azolou, and more. This event is free and sponsored by the Taiwanese United Fund, PROactive Media, Homecoming Adoptions, and other companies. Event partners include the Seminole Tribe of Florida, the University of Central Florida, and ATAYAL, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization.
