Orlando, FL - 11/27/03 - ATAYAL, Inc. and the Taiwanese Association have partnered to create the foundation for an international indigenous culture festival to be held at the University of Central Florida. The organizations are actively seeking other partners and sponsors to be involved with developing an event that will significantly impact the precarious future of indigenous tribes of the world. There is also an open call for indigenous performers, artists, exhibits, and films to be featured at the event.
The 2004 Indigenous Heritage Festival will be the first of an annual event that will travel to metropolitan communities throughout North America, providing locals with the opportunity to be enriched by the spirit and beauty of the indigenous peoples of the world. The event will consist of opportunities to empower the indigenous participants, including performances, exhibits, a film festival, and workshops. Representatives of indigenous tribes will be invited from throughout the United States and other countries. The festival will take place from June 11-15, 2004 at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida.
When asked about the reason for starting the event, founder Tony Coolidge stated, "The deep-rooted tribal cultures hold the human identity steady against the strong currents of change. Acknowledging and learning from the indigenous cultures is our privilege. Saving these indigenous cultures from disappearing is the responsibility of all humanity."
